Purpose

In the fall of 2021, due to an abrupt change in training delivery options, I created an online training module for the Issaquah PTSA Council Reflections program. This national arts program is individually run in K-12  schools by volunteer coordinators and overseen at the district level. Prior to the pandemic, there was no cohesive, user training guide and training was a one-time in-person event, which was not accessible to those who missed the session. I created an extensive online training module which addressed both the need for cohesion across 26 schools and an on-going resource that could be asynchronously accessed by all volunteers for the duration of the 6-month program. My materials captured essential institutional knowledge and procedures, which are now adaptable for the life of the program.

“Heather has an incredible ability to take complex, multi-faceted content and break it down into manageable, user-friendly modules that made the training accessible and effective for everyone involved. Volunteers consistently provided feedback that the program was not only easy to navigate but also a valuable resource they could refer back to based on their individual needs. Heather advocates for learners, ensuring that the content is clear, engaging, and continuously useful long after the initial training."

Kristen Allen Bentsen, Past PTSA President and Program Director
