Purpose
A scenario-based local feedstore collective wants to aid their customers and expand their business clientele by offering customer education in various areas. Each spring a network of local feedstores supply chicks for customers starting or expanding flocks. There is constant need for education of customers who are new to raising backyard chickens. The staff often have trouble meeting customer needs as hundreds of birds are brought in weekly over a 3-month period; they do not have staffing or space to offer as many Q and A sessions as customers request and have difficulty spending enough time with each customer explaining everything new owners need to know. Further, there is staff concern that many customers are not adequately prepared or realistic about what raising birds will entail, meaning many chicks will not reach adulthood. Staff and customers would like a comprehensive education offering that clientele can work through both before and after picking up their chicks.
